Rosen: Trump Administration's New Rule Change Further Chips Away At Nevadans' Access To Affordable Health Care

Today, Congresswoman Jacky Rosen (NV-03) responded to the Trump Administration's new sweeping rule change to undermine the nation's health care system.

"The Trump Administration will stop at nothing to undermine our health care system, even if it means hurting Nevada's hardworking families," said Rosen. "The recent rule change issued by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services will lower protections for Nevadans with pre-existing conditions, increase the cost of health care and prescription drugs, and make it more difficult for people to enroll in the health care marketplace. It's past time for Congress to bring much-needed stability back to our state health insurance markets, and I will continue advocating for commonsense, bipartisan solutions to protect Nevadans' access to affordable care."

BACKGROUND: President Trump has repeatedly declared his intention to force the Affordable Care Act (ACA) to implode, which since has been manifested in uncertainty around Cost-Sharing Reduction (CSR) payments necessary to stabilize the health insurance market and lower premiums for consumers. President Trump's new rule continues his attempt to dismantle the ACA by giving the green light for states to create loopholes allowing insurance companies to offer subpar plans that do not include all of the 10 essential benefits and giving insurers permission to raise rates by up to 15 percent without any justification.

Congresswoman Rosen is a co-sponsor of H.R. 3258, the Marketplace Certainty Act, a bill that would immediately address market instability by controlling costs and help keep insurers from exiting the Silver State Health Insurance Exchange. The bill funds cost-sharing reduction payments provided by the ACA, which would help drive down premiums costs and make insurance plans more affordable for consumers.
