Rosen Co-Sponsors Resolution to Force Debate and Floor Vote on a DACA Fix

Today, Congresswoman Jacky Rosen (NV-03) released the following statement announcing her support for H.Res. 774, a bipartisan resolution that would establish a rule that would force floor debate and votes in the House on a solution to fix President Trump's decision to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. The substitute amendments must include language similar to the bipartisan Dream Act (H.R. 3440), the bipartisan United and Securing America Act (H.R. 4796), the Securing America's Future Act (H.R. 4760), and an immigration bill backed by House Leadership or the Administration. The bill receiving the highest number of votes, exceeding 218, would pass the House under a rule known as "queen-of-the-hill.'

"Nevada's Dreamers have waited far too long for a legislative solution to the uncertainty that impacts their daily lives," said Rosen. "I'm co-sponsoring this bipartisan resolution because we need action on a DACA solution now. Our broken immigration system has trapped Dreamers in legal limbo despite the fact they contribute to our economy, serve in our military, and are studying at our schools and universities. We have a moral obligation to stand with our Dreamers, and I'm committed to doing everything possible to ensure we protect them."

BACKGROUND: In addition to co-sponsoring the Dream Act and signing a discharge petition to bring a clean Dream Act to the floor, Congresswoman Rosen is an original co-sponsor of the United and Securing America (USA) Act, a bipartisan bill that would provide a legal pathway to citizenship for DREAMers and help secure our southern border.

In Nevada, DACA has allowed more than 13,000 young people to come forward, pass background checks, and live and work legally. Nationwide, DACA has allowed around 800,000 individuals who know no home but the U.S. to legally work or attend school.
