Congressman Kevin Cramer issued a statement on yesterday's balanced budget amendment vote, which failed to garner the necessary two-thirds majority to pass the House of Representatives. Cramer is a cosponsor of H.J. Res. 2, which would have started the process to amend the U.S. Constitution to require Congress to balance the federal budget.
"It is disappointing to see many of my colleagues on the other side of the aisle vote down this important amendment which would have finally put a stop to Washington's out-of-control spending. Every year hard-working North Dakotans are forced to make tough decisions to balance their budget and live within their means so it only makes common-sense that Congress be required to do the same. It is imperative we institutionalize the fiscal discipline that eludes the political appropriation process," said Cramer.
In addition, Cramer helped introduce H.Con.Res. 73, which calls for a limited Article V Convention to propose a balanced budget amendment to the Constitution.
