Congressman Steve Womack (AR-3) today released the following statement after the Supreme Court of the United States heard oral arguments in South Dakota v. Wayfair, Inc.:

"For far too long, Congress's refusal to act on e-fairness has disadvantaged Main Street businesses and local governments. And today, by refusing to consider commonsense legislation that has been redrafted and retried since I first introduced in 2011, we've put the problem in the hands of the Supreme Court, for now. Not only could this leave Main Street businesses without proper protection and local governments without necessary guidance to simply collect what they are already owed, but it could also bring chaos to the online retail marketplace. Regardless of what the Supreme Court decides, Congress will have to act. I am extremely disappointed that we have chosen to react rather than to proactively and thoughtfully lead on this simple issue of fairness."
