Castro Statement on Mother Detained by Border Patrol Agents at San Antonio Hospital

Statement

Date: April 16, 2018
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Immigration

Congressman Joaquin Castro, First Vice Chair of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, today released the following statement:

"It is extremely troublesome that Border Patrol agents would follow Silvia Macuixtle, a mother accompanying her four year old son to emergency surgery, and detain her at the hospital during a traumatic time. This practice is morally coarse. The United States should not be a place where mothers accompanying their children facing life-threatening conditions are at risk for deportation. Cases like this should never happen again."
