DeLauro Announces Federal Grant for Precision Combustion, Inc.
- Funding will Support Research on Hydrogen Technology -
NORTH HAVEN, Conn. - Congresswoman Rosa L. DeLauro (Conn.-3) today announced the U.S. Department of Energy has selected Precision Combustion, Inc. of North Haven for a $4.9 million award. The funding will be used toward development of highly efficient, near-zero emission, fuel-flexible hydrogen combustion technology, which will support research currently underway in The Turbine Program at the Energy Department's National Energy Technology Laboratory.
"Alternative energy is the key to reducing our nation's dependence on foreign oil," said DeLauro. "Investments in alternative energy technology, such as that being developed by Precision Combustion, are also invaluable for our nation's environmental needs. I am proud that Connecticut has made significant advancements to harness the power of hydrogen energy and look forward to the technology that Precision Combustion will derive from this funding."
Kevin Burns, Precision Combustion's President commented, "We're already in engine application programs for this technology burning natural gas. This new program will support our extending the technology for fuel-flexible use with syngas and hydrogen. Success will help enable clean combustion of coal-derived hydrogen fuels, aiding U.S. energy independence while reducing NOx and greenhouse gas emissions."
