Death of Chief Justice William Rehnquist

Congresswoman Rosa L. DeLauro (Conn.-3) today released the following statement on the death of Chief Justice William Rehnquist last night.

"My thoughts and prayers are with the Rehnquist family during this difficult time. Their suffering is shared by so many Americans who are saddened by this news.

"The Chief Justice served for 33 years on the Supreme Court with a passion and determination that he sustained throughout his tenure - even managing to lead the Court through its last term this June while his health deteriorated. He was focused in his beliefs and a strong advocate for an independent judiciary. I admired these qualities in his leadership."
