Turner Urges Adoption of TREAT Act

Statement

Date: March 19, 2018
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Mike Turner (OH-10) released the following statement after President Donald J. Trump called "on Congress to change the restrictive 1970s-era law that prevents Medicaid from paying for care at certain treatment facilities with more than 16 beds":

"We need to treat individuals struggling with addiction when we have the chance to. I've introduced the TREAT Act to end the 16 bed limitation the President rightly identified as outdated. When individuals become incarcerated, the 16 bed limitation takes away their Medicaid eligibility. When they're incarcerated is when these individuals need treatment most. I strongly urge the adoption of the TREAT Act so we can prevent people from returning to their addiction."
