Montana Congressman Greg Gianforte voted this week for a bipartisan measure to make our schools safer.
The STOP School Violence Act provides schools and law enforcement with the resources they need to enhance safety in our schools, identify potential threats, and curb violence.
"The STOP School Violence Act empowers communities by providing schools and law enforcement with the tools they need to prevent future tragedies," Gianforte said. "Our communities must come together to prevent violence in our schools. Working together, students, parents, teachers, and law enforcement officials in Ravalli County addressed a threat at Darby High School. Their actions are an example of the importance of engaged communities."
The STOP School Violence Act, H.R. 4909, passed the U.S. House of Representatives 407-10.
Background:
The STOP School Violence Act provides a multi-layered approach to identify threats and prevent violence from taking place at our nation's schools.
The measure provides much-needed resources to train students, teachers, and law enforcement officers on how to recognize and respond quickly to warning signs, and it provides funding for technology to keep schools safe.
The bill also provides for the creation of an anonymous reporting system to provide tips about potential attacks and persons who may be inclined to commit acts of violence on campus.
