Proclamation - Muscular Dystrophy Awareness Day

WHEREAS, muscular dystrophy, which affects more than 400 North Dakota adults and
children, is a group of hereditary, muscle-destroying disorders that vary in inheritance
pattern, age of onset, initial muscles attacked and rate of progression; and

WHEREAS, a significant commitment of time and financial resources is required each day
to meet the challenges imposed by these chronic, progressive neuromuscular diseases; and

WHEREAS, a combination of comprehensive medical care and scientific research allows a
growing number of North Dakotans with muscular dystrophy to be contributing members
of our society and our economy; and

WHEREAS, North Dakotans are encouraged to recognize the commitment of individuals
with muscular dystrophy and their families, medical personnel and non-profit organizations
who assist them in their ongoing efforts to manage the symptoms of the disease while
working for a cure; and

NOW, THEREFORE, as Governor of the State of North Dakota, I do hereby proclaim
September 5, 2005, MUSCULAR DYSTROPHY AWARENESS DAY in the state of
North Dakota.
