Proclamation - Cystic Fibrosis Month

WHEREAS, cystic fibrosis is the most common fatal, genetic disease in the United States, affecting some 30,000 young people by attacking vital bodily functions, particularly breathing and digestion; and

WHEREAS, a significant commitment of time and financial resources is required each day to effectively treat the symptoms of the disease and to help prolong life; and

WHEREAS, a combination of treatment and genetic research allows a growing number of North Dakotans with cystic fibrosis to be contributing members of our society and economy; and

WHEREAS, North Dakotans are encouraged to recognize the commitment of our young people who live with cystic fibrosis, and their families, medical personnel and non-profit organizations who assist them for their dedication and on-going efforts toward treating the symptoms of the disease and working for an eventual cure; and

NOW, THEREFORE, as Governor of the State of North Dakota, I do hereby proclaim September 2005, CYSTIC FIBROSIS MONTH in the state of North Dakota.
