Hoeven Kicks Off Project Childsafe
National Firearm Safety Program To Distribute Gun Locks Statewide
Gov. John Hoeven today announced the kickoff of Project ChildSafe, a public education program to distribute free gun locks and firearm safety material across the state. Local law enforcement groups from across North Dakota will partner with the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) to distribute thousands of free gun locks in the state.
"Keeping our children safe is a key priority in our state," Hoeven said. "Proper education, including programs like Project ChildSafe, helps ensure safe use of firearms."
The initial phase of the Project ChildSafe program in 2003 distributed more than 20 million free gun locks across the country. The current phase, funded by a $30 million grant from the U.S. Department of Justice, will distribute an additional 12 million gun locks.
