Today, U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA), a senior member of the Appropriations Committee, released the following statement on the opioid spending package included in the bipartisan budget deal.

"I've heard from people across Washington state, and across the country, about the need to provide more resources to fight this epidemic--and this bill does just that. While President Trump has made promises and failed to deliver, Congress has been working to provide support to our families and communities. The new funding in this bill addresses many of the challenges we heard about from those on the frontlines of this epidemic, from researchers and local officials addressing the root causes of the crisis, to families and communities personally facing its ripple effects. The opioid epidemic has caused far too much heartbreak for the parents and children across the country dealing with the loss of a loved one, the challenges of recovery, and the stigma of addiction--I'm going to continue pushing for solutions to help change that."
