Rep.Barragán Introduces Legislation To Require Sexual Harassment Training For Federal Contractors

U.S. Representative Nanette Diaz Barragán (D-San Pedro) today introduced legislation to make harassment training mandatory for contractors working with the federal government. The Federal Contractor Anti-Harassment Training Act would require contractors to complete annual anti-harassment and anti-discrimination training. If resources are a challenge, the legislation would allow contractors to access employee training resources that federal agencies provide to their employees.

"Unlike Members of Congress and congressional staff, who are required to complete harassment training, federal contractors are not currently required to do so," said Rep. Barragán. "We must extend this common-sense sexual harassment training to federal contractors to ensure that individuals who work closely with the federal government, and receive tax-payer money, are held to the same standard. The #TimesUp and #MeToo movements are shining a light on the urgent need to put systems in place to prevent harassment and hold harassers accountable. The Federal Contractor Anti-Harassment Training Act sends a strong message that sexual misconduct will not be tolerated in the federal government and would ensure that federal contractors are providing training to prevent harassment in the workplace."
