Today, U.S Representative Ted Budd (R-Nc) released the following statement after introducing the H.R 4959, the Working Families Relief Act. Under the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act a parent with a zero income tax liability is eligible for a $1,400 refund. My bill would say that, if he or she paid more than that in payroll taxes, she'd be eligible to receive the entire $2,000 child credit refund.
"Today's children are tomorrow's taxpayers and entrepreneurs, and as lawmakers we should make it easier, not harder, to be parents. This is why I've introduced the Working Families Relief Act, which would reward working parents by making them eligible for a more generous Child Tax credit refund.
Working parents are making a double contribution to important programs like Social Security and Medicare through payroll taxes they pay and by making the financial sacrifices to raise children. This bill would provide these parents some additional relief and level the playing field between them and non-parents."
