Katrina Slogs Through Florida District 25

Diaz-Balart: Floridians are resilient and we will overcome this catastrophe

WASHINGTON-Hurricane Katrina crossed over Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart's congressional district leaving flooding and power loss. In response to the storm and the subsequent clean up efforts, Diaz-Balart today issued the following statement:

"Two hurricanes have hit Florida, including Hurricane Katrina which swept through a large part of the 25th District last night," Diaz-Balart said. "Currently, more than a million people are without power though Florida Power & Light is working hard to remedy this situation. Flooding is wide spread and at least four people have died from fallen trees. Obviously the aftermath of this storm has been serious, but Floridians are resilient and we will overcome this catastrophe.

"Now is a best time to reach out to others in our community," Diaz-Balart continued. "We need to especially look out for the young and the elderly and others who most need our help. I am certain that our community's characteristic generosity will be exhibited during the clean-up.

"While we clean up and recover, may we also remember and pray for those along the Gulf Coast who are now threatened by Katrina's path," Diaz-Balart concluded.
