Castro Statement on Nunes Memo Release

Statement

Date: Feb. 2, 2018
Location: Washington, DC

Today, Congressman Joaquin Castro (TX-20), a member of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, issued the following statement on the President's decision to declassify the Majority memo:

"Chairman Nunes' decision to publicly release a political document wrought with inaccurate allegations of bias within the Department of Justice and Federal Bureau of Investigation represents a shameful effort to undermine Special Counsel Mueller's investigation and potential findings. This is a clear attempt to discredit our justice system, politicize, distort and mishandle highly classified intelligence placing U.S. source and methods at risk, and jeopardize United States national security for short-term partisan gain. The President is clearly muddying the waters to obfuscate the truth and delegitimize--or soon terminate--the Russia investigation. This is a clear breakdown in the way the House Intelligence Committee conducts oversight of the intelligence community, representing uncharted territory and a constitutional crisis ahead."
