Rosen Applauds Introduction of Senate Companion to the Bipartisan USA Act

Statement

Today, Congresswoman Jacky Rosen (NV-03) issued the following statement applauding U.S. Senators John McCain (R-AZ) and Christopher Coons (D-DE) for introducing a companion bill in the U.S. Senate to the bipartisan Uniting and Securing America (USA) Act. The bill would provide a legal pathway to citizenship for Dreamers and help secure the U.S.-Mexico border. Congresswoman Rosen helped introduce this bipartisan bill as an original co-sponsor in the House of Representatives last month.

"The USA Act is a commonsense compromise that combines the promise of the Dream Act with reasonable measures to secure our borders, and I'm pleased to see this bipartisan framework now gaining traction in the Senate," said Rosen. "Our plan would bring peace of mind and a path to citizenship for the thousands of Dreamers living in Nevada whose lives are now stuck in limbo. This bill moves the immigration debate in Congress in the right direction, and I urge my colleagues to put aside partisan politics and join us in moving this long-term solution forward."

BACKGROUND: The bipartisan Uniting and Securing America (USA) Act provides Dreamers conditional legal status in the U.S. while they pursue a green card to become legal permanent residents. Dreamers would then have the same opportunity as other green card-holders to become citizens. The legislation also requires the Department of Homeland Security to develop a southern border strategy that outlines what new technologies and devices can be used to achieve situational awareness and operational control of the border; authorizes the creation of new designated points of entry on the border; and requires the appointment of new immigration judges to better handle caseloads.
