U.S. Rep. Lloyd Smucker (PA-16) today released the following statement after the House and Senate passed a government funding bill:
"This federal government shutdown was completely unnecessary. Senate Democrats fabricated a deadline on an issue unrelated to government funding. I look forward to continuing bipartisan discussions on key issues facing our communities and our country.
"Furthermore, this shutdown underscores the importance of reforming the federal budget process. The status quo isn't working, and I will continue to push the House Budget Committee to reform the broken process and add accountability measures to help end Congress' track record of governing from one funding crisis to the next."
