Garrett Statement On Funding The Government

Congressman Tom Garrett (R-VA), issued the following statement today regarding the Senate's failed vote on a continuing resolution to fund the government and extend the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) for six years:

"By forcing a government shutdown, House and Senate Democrats have prevented our troops from receiving the resources they need to help keep our nation safe, they have jeopardized the future of the Children's Health Insurance Program that acts as a safety net to nine-million vulnerable American children, and they have left senior citizens in the lurch."

"Ninety-three per cent of House and Senate Democrats voted for this Schumer-Pelosi shipwreck, and it's time for them to take ownership of their disastrous game."

"Shame on Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and the ninety-three percent of House and Senate Democrats who voted against protecting sick children, supporting seniors, and providing paychecks for our brave fighting men and women."

"The Schumer-Pelosi charade has gone on long enough. It is time for the Democrats' obstruct-at-all-costs approach to governing to come to an end. It is time to reopen the government and get back to work for the American people."
