Sessions Statement on the Democrat Government Shutdown

Statement

U.S. Congressman Pete Sessions (R-TX) released the following statement in regard to the government shutdown forced by Senate Democrats:

"Yesterday I joined my House colleagues in responsibly acting to fund our nation's government, reauthorize the Children's Health Insurance Program funding for six years, delay onerous Obamacare taxes, and ensure our troops have funding. Democrats have made a deliberate decision to create an unnecessary crisis and force our government to shut down. As a result of their recklessness and irresponsible actions, our troops go unpaid, millions of children across the country will lose their health insurance, and our country faces unnecessary uncertainty. This was a sheer political move based upon a completely unrelated issue that is not facing an imminent deadline.

"Unlike my Democrat colleagues I value my responsibility to fund our nation's government and recognize what a shutdown would mean for our men and women in uniform. It is shameful that they are abdicating their constitutional duty because of partisan games. My staff and I will continue to keep our office open during this shut down. I am not letting Chuck Schumer and Senate Democrats come in between my duty to serve the people of the 32nd Congressional District of Texas."
