Rep. Barragán Statement Opposing Another Continuing Resolution

Statement

Rep. Nanette Díaz Barragán (D-San Pedro) issued the following statement after the House voted to pass a continuing resolution to fund the government through February 8th:

"Shutdowns hurt our economy and represent a failure to govern. Just as damaging is Republicans' failure to pass a year-long budget, instead relying on short-term budgetary Band-Aids. In my short time in Congress, I have voted on five continuing resolutions. Congress must stop running the government month-to-month. A short-term deal does not allow for government agencies or our military to plan for the future. This is not a esponsible way to govern."

"I voted against the fifth continuing resolution because we are right back where we started: another short-term funding bill that does not address critical bipartisan issues. I will continue to oppose any budget deal that does not protect Dreamers. And I will insist that any budget deal adequately funds community health centers, provides resources to combat the opioid crisis and offers relief for victims of natural disasters."

"Furthermore, we have no commitment from House Republicans to immediately work on these bipartisan issues. Between this week and next week, the House has only one and a half legislative days to tackle these issues. The American people deserve to have Congress work for them in a timely manner. We must not let up the pressure until these critical issues are solved. Dreamers deserve a permanent solution now, as do our children, as do victims of natural disasters. It is cruel to leave them hanging."
