Letter to Postmaster General Brennan - Hold a Public Community Meeting to Improve Mail Service

Dear Postmaster General Brennan,

Once again, we write on behalf of the residents of the Village of Larchmont, NY and the surrounding communities following the continued reports of inconsistent and sub-par postal delivery service in their area. We visited Larchmont last year after hearing of residents' widespread issues with service quality, ranging from irregular delivery or no delivery at all to mail delivered to alternative receptacles, such as a garages or fences. At the time, we requested that USPS hold a public community meeting with residents to explain the findings of the Larchmont postal operations review, hear additional feedback, and discuss the ways USPS is working to improve service delivery for Larchmont. To our knowledge, this meeting still has not occurred.

While we understand that the USPS has held one Customer Appreciation Day in October 2017, this is not sufficient to gather the information needed from residents, nor is it sufficient to convey to them the steps USPS is taking to address their legitimate and well-founded concerns. Moreover, according to residents, the service delivery problems have persisted. Therefore, we are once again calling on the USPS to hold a public community meeting with residents to discuss the ways the agency is working to further enhance delivery service and to give residents the opportunity to voice their concerns.

Given that the USPS recently confirmed that it was planning to conduct such a meeting, we are confident that the USPS will heed this call and set a meeting as soon as possible. In an article that appeared in the Journal News on October 9th, 2017. USPS Spokesman George Flood said, "we [USPS] were in the process of planning customer appreciation days in Westchester, so the town hall type meetings would be a good complement to these events." The same article asserted that USPS, though interested in a town hall type meeting, was unable to find an available date. Now, four months after our initial call with delivery issues still looming for the area, we strongly urge USPS to hold an event for Westchester residents with all due speed.

The Larchmont residents have been patient, accommodating and entirely understanding throughout this process while enduring endless issues. It is time for USPS to finally fix these issues, once and for all.
