Lujan Grisham's Statement on Funding Bill that Fails American Priorities

Statement

U.S. Representative Michelle Lujan Grisham released the following statement after voting against a funding bill that fails to resolve several national priorities, including reauthorizing the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP), protecting Dreamers, and strengthening national security.

"I cannot vote to kick the can down the road on life-threatening issues that Congress has known about and left unaddressed for months. Nine million children are at risk of losing health care as states run out of CHIP funding; 122 Dreamers are losing protection and are at risk of deportation every day; veterans continue to lack timely, quality health care and services; our national laboratories and homeland security programs do not have the funding they need to accomplish their national security mission; and countless Americans in Puerto Rico are waiting for emergency support for their stretched Medicaid programs as they try to recover from Hurricane Maria. It is irresponsible, cruel, and heartless for Congress to leave Washington to go back with their families, while so many Americans are left abandoned. The American people deserve better than governing by chaos."
