Rep. Barragán Statement on Supporting Passage of a Clean Dream Act This Week

Statement

Date: Dec. 18, 2017
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Immigration

Rep. Nanette Díaz Barragán (D-San Pedro) today issued this statement on the urgency of passing into law a clean version of the Dream Act:

"If the Dream Act came to the floor for a vote today it would pass. There's no conscionable reason for Speaker Ryan and House Republican leadership to continue to keep Dreamers in the dark. It's just cruel," said Rep. Barragán.

"The nearly 800,000 young men and women known as Dreamers are our nurses, teachers and neighbors. For some, including me, they are family.

More than 12,000 young people this year alone have already lost their deferral status and their ability to work. Every day we delay, another 122 Dreamers are added to that list and become vulnerable to deportation. Congress cannot delay, it cannot turn its back on these men and women who are Americans in every way except their paperwork."
