Bergman Supports Additional Protections for Legal Gun Owners

"Protecting the rights of lawful gun-owners in Michigan's First District will always be one of my top priorities and that is why I proudly co-sponsored H.R. 38. The Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act of 2017 passed today in the House 231-198. This common-sense legislation would create concealed firearm reciprocity throughout the country: allowing a legally qualified individual to carry a concealed firearm in other states that allow individuals to carry concealed firearms."

In addition to expanding protections for law-abiding gun-owners, H.R. 38:

Includes legislation to Fix NICS: Encouraging and incentivizing states to enter records that would legally disqualify a person from purchasing a firearm into the FBI background check system;
Sets common-sense guidelines for carrying firearms across state lines;
Does not impede on municipalities rights to enact restrictions on where, when, and how people can carry in their jurisdiction;
Excludes any individual who is prohibited by federal law from possessing, transporting, shipping, or receiving a firearm; and
Does not change laws on purchasing a gun or change access to law-abiding gun owners.
