Senator Cantwell's Statement on Hurricane Katrina:

"I remain deeply saddened by the recent devastation wrought along the Gulf Coast by Hurricane Katrina, and am concerned by the destruction and hardship facing the region's residents. The many Americans who have already contributed to relief efforts deserve our utmost thanks. However, the job is just beginning, and I am committed to working with my colleagues to rebuild the area, avert further humanitarian crisis, and help victims of this tragedy get back on the path to a bright and successful future. We must act immediately to alleviate suffering and aid the plight of those rendered homeless so that the citizens of Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and other hard hit areas can go on with their lives. The $10.5 billion emergency aid bill passed by the Senate on Thursday September 1 is just a first step, which I strongly support.

My thoughts and prayers are with the victims of this horrific natural disaster during this difficult time."
