Rep. Wasserman Schultz Statement on Special Session of Congress for the Victims of Hurricane Katrina

"This disaster affects every American and every American should help"

September 1, 2005

(Washington, DC) -- Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz released the following statement this afternoon regarding consideration of a $10 billion emergency supplemental spending bill for disaster relief in Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama, which have been crippled by Hurricane Katrina. The supplemental spending bill is expected to be on the House Floor on Friday.

"My deepest condolences go to the victims of Hurricane Katrina who lost their lives, their homes and their livelihoods. My thoughts and prayers are with everyone who has been harmed by this terrible storm. It is absolutely imperative that the United States Congress immediately respond with the emergency assistance and funds that are necessary to help the federal government meet the critical needs of our citizens in Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama.

"The aid is needed now, and I am pleased that Congress has chosen to act now rather than next week. This disaster affects every American and every American should help."
