Proclamation - Sargent County Hayland Shortage

PROCLAMATION - SARGENT COUNTY HAYLAND SHORTAGE

AUGUST 24, 2005 THRU DECEMBER 31, 2005

WHEREAS, flooded fields and pastures in Sargent County have created a shortage of livestock feed and pastureland for local farmers and ranchers; and

WHEREAS, designated no-mow areas and CRP acres in Sargent County have been left to grow over the course of the summer; and

WHEREAS, the United States Department of Agriculture has approved the opening of CRP acres in Sargent County for emergency haying and grazing, and with the additional harvesting of hay in designated no-mow areas, the total livestock feed available to farmers and ranchers in the county would increase; and

NOW, THEREFORE, I instruct the Director of the North Dakota Department of Transportation to lift the ban on mowing in no-mow areas in Sargent County until livestock feed levels in that county are back to normal.
