Congressman Biggs' Statement on Tax Reform Package Negotiations

Statement

As tax reform discussions intensify around the nation, Congressman Biggs issued the following statement:

"There is much to like about the plan released yesterday. I believe that millions of Americans and their businesses stand to benefit greatly from its passage.

"However, as debate continues, there are three provisions that I would like to see modified in the current draft text:

"First, I oppose the removal of the adoption tax credit and believe this provision should be protected to incentivize American adoptions. Second, Americans have waited long enough for relief. This legislation should be retroactive to January 1, 2017, allowing everyone to feel immediate effects of the reform. Sadly, if this tax package was enacted today as currently written, Americans would have to wait over a year to receive most benefits. Third, the tax rates need to be reduced for everyone.

"We are on the right track with this proposal. I will continue to work with my colleagues to make sure this legislation is good for Arizona's Fifth Congressional District and the rest of the country."
