Today, Congresswoman Claudia Tenney (NY-22) released the following statement on the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act released this morning by the House Ways and Means Committee:
"Tax Reform is key to unleashing our economy, bringing back jobs and renewing the promise of the American Dream for all. The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act released today is an important first step to level the playing field for hardworking Upstate families and end loopholes that only benefit the wealthy and well-connected. With a simpler and fairer tax code, middle-income families and small businesses will have the opportunity to grow and thrive once again.
Importantly, this bill is only the start of the tax reform conversation. I will continue to advocate for robust SALT provisions that provide tangible relief to New York taxpayers, small businesses and family farmers. In a state like New York, where taxpayers are beholden to the unaccountable and fiscally irresponsible policies of liberal elites in Albany, the SALT deduction matters. It amounts to real relief for hardworking families. This is why I continue to stand with many of my Republican colleagues from New York in advocating for the inclusion of meaningful SALT provisions in a final tax reform package. As a result of our strong efforts on behalf of New York taxpayers, we have already proven successful in retaining portions of the SALT deduction that will enable overburdened property tax payers in New York to continue deducting their property taxes. Moving forward, I will continue to put New York taxpayers first, just as I have always done."
