Congressman Joaquin Castro (TX-20) released the following statement regarding reports that U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) officials plan to apprehend a 10-year-old girl with cerebral palsy who recently underwent gall bladder surgery at Driscoll Children's Hospital in Corpus Christi, Texas:
"Right now, federal agents are staking out the hospital room of a sick, 10-year-old child. The Trump Administration plans to rip this ailing little girl from her family, and ship her off, by herself, to a detention center. I challenge President Trump and Acting Secretary Duke to show that this enforcement operation is prioritizing a dangerous criminal. A small child who just had surgery is not a threat to Texans' safety or our national security. DHS should focus its resources elsewhere."
