Virginia, We Want You to Start Dreaming Again

Press Release

Date: Nov. 5, 2017
Issues: Taxes

Less than a day after the Republican tax reform bill, the Tax Cuts & Jobs Act, was introduced, Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) was back on the road for her "Faces of Tax Reform" tour, this time joining Rep. Rob Wittman (R-VA) in America's First District (the First District of Virginia).

At a roundtable at Colonial Circuits in Fredericksburg, Virginia, they heard from local families, workers, and business owners about the impact tax reform could have on their community.

The bill's been introduced -- why meet with people now?

Because, like Rep. Wittman said in a blog post for GOP.gov, "there are a number of big policy wins with our reforms, but it's important that the American people's voices don't get drowned out by talk of statistics and tax brackets." Our tax plan is inspired by the everyday American, and we want to hear from you!

Here's what you may have missed:

Rep. Wittman:
"[We are] modernizing our tax code to make sure it helps working-class families, that it helps small businesses, that it allows more of their dollars to stay in their pockets for things families need. To make sure businesses can keep more of their dollars so they can reinvest to grow their businesses, to help hire more people, to help pay people more. This bill, the Tax Cuts & Jobs Act, does exactly that."

"There's a level of excitement and enthusiasm out there and a positive attitude now that I think that the changes of the tax code will happen with the Tax Cuts & Jobs Act will kickstart our economy to the next level."

Chair McMorris Rodgers:
"There's a lot of excitement. There's a lot of enthusiasm as you think about more jobs and getting our economy growing. This plan is pro-family and pro-economic growth. That's what we want -- that's what we want for everyone…we see [the Tax Cuts & Jobs Act] as being a big game-changer."

"You are all the faces of tax reform. And we want you to be unleashed. We want you to start dreaming again of what is possible. So if you want more jobs, fairer taxes, and bigger paychecks, I am thrilled that you're here and I hope that you will join us in this cause."
