Banks Votes To Sanction Iran Missile Program

Congressman Jim Banks (IN-03), a member of the House Armed Services Committee, today voted to increase sanctions on Iran's missile program.

"Iran became increasingly bold in the Middle East and Syria under the previous administration, and we cannot allow its aggression to go unchecked," said Banks. "By enacting stronger sanctions against Iran and those who seek to help the Iranian regime acquire nuclear-capable ballistic missiles, Iran will be held accountable. Ensuring the safety of Americans and our friends in the region depends on aggressive action by Congress, and this bill is a step in the right direction."

BACKGROUND:

Iran continues to move forward with its intercontinental ballistic missile program. To deter its actions, the House passed H.R. 1698, the Iran Ballistic Missiles and International Sanctions Enforcement Act, today by a vote of 423 - 2. The legislation bans foreign entities from transferring arms or technology to Iran that could help it develop nuclear-capable ballistic missiles.
