Sessions Statement on President Trump's Action to Fix Our Broken Healthcare System

Statement

Date: Oct. 12, 2017
Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Congressman (R-TX), Chairman of the House Committee on Rules, released the following statement in support of President Trumps announcement to fix our broken health care system:

"Over the past seven years I have proudly joined my House colleagues in voting more than 60 times to dismantle Obamacare. While the House has continued to make strides to fix our broken health care system, our friends in the Senate have barely been able to bring these ideas to the Senate floor for debate, much less an actual vote. It is a shame that their continued inaction has strained our ability to provide American families and businesses with the ability to afford quality health care.

"This year I proudly supported a measure to create a competitive health care marketplace by allowing businesses to pool together and form large group sizes to drive down insurance costs. While my preference would have been for this bill to have passed the Senate and gone to the president's desk for his signature, I am pleased that the president has now acted to the degree that he can to drive down costs and provide American families with more access to affordable, quality health care. American job creators need relief that today's executive order will provide, and I encourage the Senate to join the House in passing legislation that can bring real, legislative relief to American families and businesses."
