Carter Leads Fight for $11 Billion in Additional Hurricane Harvey Relief, Votes for Aid to Puerto Rico and Virgin Islands, California Wildfires

U.S. Congressman John Carter (TX-31) voted in favor of an additional $36.5 billion supplemental appropriation in disaster relief for Texas, Florida, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and California. As Chairman of Homeland Security Appropriations, Rep. Carter, joined by many members of the Texas Congressional Delegation, pushed to ensure billions of dollars go to Hurricane Harvey relief efforts, including $11billion for flood insurance debt repayment. This legislation also includes critical funding for Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands in support of Hurricane recovery, and designates funding to assist communities in Northern California in the wake of the region's devastating wildfires.

Rep. John Carter made the following statement on passage of the bill:

"It was a big fight, but I'm proud of the Texas delegation for standing fast and ensuring this funding package would include relief for those still recovering from Hurricane Harvey," said Rep. Carter. "There's more to be done, but this legislation goes a long way to lift the financial burdens on Texans who continue to feel the impact of Hurricane Harvey. With each disaster that has come our way, Texans have stepped up to help our own. Across the nation, volunteers and first responders have invested countless hours in performing lifesaving missions and rebuilding communities. I'm glad to see this supplemental funding will continue to help these community efforts."
