Congresswoman Brownley, Co-Chair of the Reinvesting in Our Returning Heroes Task Force, Asks Companies to Share Best Practices Regarding Veteran Hiring

Today, Congresswoman Julia Brownley (D-CA), co-chair of the House Democratic Caucus Reinvesting in Our Returning Heroes Task Force, asked 75 U.S. companies noted for their commitment to hiring veterans and servicemembers to share their best practices to help guide discussions on the ways Congress can encourage hiring and ease veterans' transition into the workforce.

During their move to civilian life, veterans often find that their unique skills and leadership experiences are not well understood, and therefore undervalued, by employers. Congress must commit itself to developing policies that serve veterans by giving them opportunities to access meaningful jobs or obtain the training and education needed to start new careers.

"I look forward to hearing from companies who are helping to ensure our returning men and women in uniform can find good-paying, quality jobs that utilize the unique skill sets they gained during their time in the military," said Congresswoman Brownley. "With the help of these companies who are paving the way for veteran hiring, we can learn how to better ensure that all employers recognize the invaluable skills our nation's veterans have and keep our promise to our returning heroes."

One of five House Democratic Caucus Jobs for America Task Forces, the Reinvesting in Our Returning Heroes Task Force will build on the strengths of our military and the skills of our returning veterans to grow our economy and create new jobs. The focus will include ensuring the talents our veterans developed while serving can transition into the civilian job market and be harnessed for success.

The five Jobs for America Task Forces will create opportunities for growth, boost hardworking families, and give every worker the opportunity to achieve the American dream by developing legislation focused on investing in key industries. The effort was launched by the House Democratic Caucus in September.
