The congresswoman emphasized that the Iran nuclear agreement (Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action) is based on verification, not trust, and has fulfilled its dual mission of preventing Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon and averting all-out war.

It will likely result in Iran restarting its nuclear weapons program and spark a nuclear arms race in the region causing countries like Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the UAE, and others to acquire their own nuclear weapons. It also creates a dangerous conflict for Hawai"i, especially because it will directly undermine any chance of a peacefully negotiated solution to the crisis we are facing with North Korea and the development of its own nuclear weapons. The decision now lies in the hands of Congress, and it is essential we put politics aside and do what is best for our national security and the American people by upholding this deal."
