Occupational Safety and Health Administrations Final Rule on Crystalline Silica

Statement

Congressman Andy Biggs and 27 of his colleagues in the House of Representatives sent a letter to Department of Labor Secretary Alexander Acosta requesting an indefinite delay of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration's (OSHA) final rule on crystalline silica. Congressman Biggs released the following statement:

"My colleagues and I were deeply disturbed to hear OSHA is allowing this rule to be implemented this coming Saturday. We have heard from multiple industry groups and businesses in our districts that the rule will have significant negative effects on their ability to stay in business. This rule is yet another of the Obama Administration's blatant efforts to sidestep Congress and overregulate the American economy. In order to restore economic confidence and unleash our country's job creation potential, the Trump Administration should take every opportunity to roll back unworkable, burdensome regulations and restore Congress's Article I authority.

"We appreciate that the Administration might reconsider implementation of the rule, but consideration is only the first step. The prosperity of our constituents depend on their expedient action."
