Less Restrictions Equals More Adaptability

Dear Friend-

Like you, I believe for us to have a free and fair society we must also have law and order. Every day our law enforcement officers are putting themselves in harm's way to keep us safe. I believe we must empower these officers and ensure they have the tools they need to protect our communities; therefore, I wanted to tell you about a new executive order that will do just that.

On August 28, 2017, President Trump announced that he would be rescinding restrictions imposed by the previous administration that prohibits law enforcement agencies from obtaining surplus military equipment, including life-saving Kevlar vests and helmets, first responder rescue equipment, and helicopters that are critical in disaster response efforts such as hurricane Harvey.

We are already beginning to reap the benefits of this executive order; just this week, Harris County Sheriff's Office in Texas--the location of severe hurricane flooding--received two military surplus vehicles: one for high-water rescues and one for high-risk operations. This equipment will undoubtedly save lives and allow for a more effective and adaptable force.

I am committed to making sure our law enforcement personnel--firefighters, first responders, police officers, and volunteers--have the tools, resources, and training necessary to keep themselves and our communities safe. Although we can never quite do enough to fully thank and show our appreciation to them, I will continue to support all those who serve our communities.

Please do not hesitate to contact me anytime an issue that concerns you comes before the House of Representatives.

It's an honor to serve you and Virginia's First District in the People's House.

Sincerely,
Rob
