Dear Friend-
Knowing your interest in small business and our economy, I wanted to update you on my work in this critical area.
I spent last week traveling throughout the First District meeting with groups that drive our economy. I first met with the Gloucester Chamber of Commerce where we discussed the current state of affairs in Washington, ranging from the environment to health care. The Gloucester Chamber's members represent businesses of all sizes and sectors, so they are great resource for supporting our businesses with what they need to be successful. I believe the best thing Washington can do to encourage job growth is get out of the way, and if we want economic growth and more choice, we must empower businesses, not Washington bureaucrats.
I also spoke with members of the Virginia Bankers Association about ways we in Congress can reduce the regulatory burden on our banks. Currently, there is an extremely high cost of compliance hurting smaller community banks and bankers. That is why I cosponsored the House-passed H.R. 10, the Financial CHOICE Act, as it will revive our community banks, hold Wall Street more accountable, and allow small businesses to access the capital they need to be successful. The bill also releases community banks and credit unions from the current "one-size-fits-all" regulatory approach.
The American entrepreneurial spirit--not Washington--is what is guiding our nation's economy forward, and I will do everything in my power to continue to support our job creators. Our future lies not in the size of government, but in the people who drive this country's prosperity: the entrepreneurs, the innovators, and those who work hard to achieve their American Dream.
Please do not hesitate to contact me anytime an issue that concerns you comes before the House, especially if it concerns our economy.
It's an honor to serve you and Virginia's First District in the People's House.
Sincerely,
Rob
