Signed, Sealed, Delivered, the Highway Bill Brings Millions to the 2nd District of Mississippi

Today, United States Representative Bennie G. Thompson (D-MS) released the following statement regarding the President's signature to the Transportation Equity Act - A Legacy For Users' (commonly referred to as the "highway bill").

"With the President's signature to the Transportation Equity Act, we can finally move forward with many long awaited projects like the $50 million dollars dedicated to I-69, stretching across seven states, including the 2nd District. In fact, from Tunica to Jefferson County and all points in between, more than 50 communities in the Second District are set for road improvements."

"Additionally, funding will be made available to begin the Connector Road project in Greenwood, near Viking Range, expansion on the Byram/Clinton Norrell Road Corridor, the Dentville-Jack Road project, which is a major route through Crystal Springs to Utica, and the Lynch Street Extension project in Jackson."

"This passage marks two long years of tedious negotiation and compromise. This bill is a significant economic boost to large and small communities alike. It will create more than 700,000 new jobs across the country and improve safety throughout our nation's highways systems.

"Throughout this process, we gave special consideration to small communities and searched for projects that would have great economic impact. Any time we can put people to work, we should, and this year's highway bill is a testament to the leadership of local officials and cooperation between local and federal government," stated Congressman Thompson.
