Collins Statement on Criminal Alien Gang Member Removal Act

The House today passed H.R. 3697, the Criminal Alien Gang Member Removal Act, as part of Republican immigration enforcement efforts. The bill encompasses a section of the Davis-Oliver Act, which Rep. Doug Collins (R-Ga.) co-sponsored.

Collins, a member of the House Judiciary Committee, released the following statement in response to the bill's passage:

"There's no question that gangs have blighted too many American communities and no doubt that the Criminal Alien Gang Member Removal Act will help law enforcement make progress in combatting violent transnational gangs. The House passed a bill today that would empower immigration officials to deport illegal alien members of such gangs operating on our streets.

"It also ensures that asylum and other protected statuses are reserved for those who follow the law. Thoughtful immigration legislation should uphold the rule of law, protect our communities and elevate the dignity of every person, and this bill furthers each of these goals."
