Statement

Date: Sept. 11, 2017
Location: Washington, DC

Today, Rep. Adriano Espaillat (NY-13) released the following statement on the 16th anniversary of the attacks of September 11, 2001.

"September 11th serves as a reminder of the tragic loss of nearly 3,000 innocent Americans and our strength as a country to stand in the face of terrorism and adversity," said Rep. Espaillat. "While it is one of the greatest tragedies in recent memory, 9/11 is also a day that Americans united around the country to help and comfort one another. We witnessed countless individuals charge back into smoke and flames to help their fellow New Yorkers, colleagues at the Pentagon, and passengers and crew of United Airlines Flight 93 who sacrificed their lives. We are forever grateful to the first responders and all who volunteered to risk their lives and their long-term health during the rescue and recovery efforts.

"As we reflect on the attacks of September 11th, we recommit ourselves and our work -- regardless of political ideology, background, race, ethnicity, gender, orientation or citizenship status -- to stand united, together and as one, in the face of terrorism that seeks to destroy our way of life, liberty and freedom that we hold dear as a country.

"May God continue to bless our 9/11 families and first responders. And may God continue to bless the United States of America."
