Pingree announces over $2.3 million in federal funding for Maine airport safety improvements

Congresswoman Chellie Pingree announced today that airports in Augusta, Brunswick, and Portland will receive a total of over $2.3 million in Federal Aviation Administration grants for safety improvement projects.

"Maine's airports perform an essential service by connecting our state to the rest of the country. They are vital hubs of our nation's transportation infrastructure and important contributors to local economies," said Pingree. "The responsibility of maintaining them shouldn't fall on local municipalities alone, so I'm glad these Maine airports are receiving federal funding to make needed improvements to ensure their safe operation."

Details and amounts for the grants below:

Portland Jetport: $2,119,527
To fund the installation of a runway lighting system for Runway 18/36, construction of taxiway shoulders on 4,100 feet of Taxiway C, and the reconstruction of 581,175 square yards of aging terminal apron pavement.

Brunswick Executive Airport: $117,964
To fund rehabilitation of 38,500 square yards of the existing apron to maintain the structural integrity of the pavement.

Augusta State Airport: $82,581
To fund the installation of a 3,200-foot perimeter fence, remove vegetative obstructions in the Runway 26 approach surface, and seal cracks throughout the existing apron pavement.
