Banks Statement on Possible Change in Iran Strategy

Congressman Jim Banks (IN-03), a member of the House Armed Services Committee, today made the following statement regarding news reports that President Donald Trump is weighing a more aggressive strategy toward Iran:

"Iran's pursuit of ballistic missiles, support for terror groups across the Middle East and attempts to partner with North Korea are evidence that the country is not moderating its behavior. President Trump is right to consider a new strategy against the Iranian regime and move away from the failed Obama strategy of appeasement. I am hopeful that the Administration will consider reimplementing tougher sanctions to weaken the Iranian regime's finances, targeting Iranian weapons trafficking throughout the Middle East and allowing our military to protect itself against Iranian aggression at sea. We must do more to pressure and confront the world's leading state sponsor of terror."
