House Passes Emergency Funding for Hurricane Harvey

Today, the United States House of Representatives, with the support of U.S. Congressman David G. Valadao (CA-21), passed legislation to provide $7.85 billion to assist with relief and recovery efforts following Hurricane Harvey. Following the vote, Congressman Valadao released the following statement:

"Hurricane Harvey is one of the worst natural disasters our nation has faced and as a Member of the House Appropriations Committee, ensuring disaster victims have the resources and assistance they need is a responsibility I take very seriously. The funding provided through this bill will ensure FEMA can fully carry out response and recovery efforts in the most efficient manner possible."

H. Res. 502, the Making Supplemental Appropriations for Disaster Relief Act provides $7.85 billion in emergency funding, including $7.4 billion for the Disaster Relief Fund (DRF) administered by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). The legislation also includes $450 million to support the Small Business Administration's (SBA) disaster loan program to assist small businesses and homeowners as they begin to rebuild.

H. Res. 502 was passed by the House of Representatives on Wednesday, September 6, 2017 by a vote of 419-3. The legislation will now be sent to the Senate for further consideration.
