Following reports that President Trump has removed Steve Bannon from the National Security Council, Congresswoman Chellie Pingree released the following statement:

"From the start, President Trump showed poor judgment in allowing Steve Bannon, a campaign operative, to sit on the National Security Council. Someone who is best known for producing fake news and making inflammatory statements should never have had a seat on the National Security Council, where levelheaded decision-making must prevail for the sake of America's safety and security. I'm relieved that he has finally been removed."
