Hoyer Statement on United Nations' Sanctions Against North Korea

Statement

Date: Sept. 12, 2017
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Foreign Affairs

House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer released the following statement today after the U.N. Security Council voted yesterday to strengthen sanctions against North Korea:

"North Korea cannot be permitted to threaten the United States or its neighbors with the world's most dangerous weapons, and I am encouraged that the international community has rallied to make this clear. These new sanctions, the toughest ever imposed on the North Korea, will further isolate the Kim regime and make clear that missile tests and nuclear demonstrations will not gain it the legitimacy or concessions it seeks. Now is the moment for the United States to show leadership and resolve, and I urge the President to make clear that our nation will continue to stand by our allies as we meet this challenge together."
