Today Rep. Dina Titus of Nevada's First Congressional District released the following statement on the Justice Department's appointment of Former FBI Director Robert Mueller as special counsel in the investigation of President Trump's ties to Russia.

"While I commend the Justice Department for selecting someone with a respected, bipartisan track record at the FBI, Mueller's appointment does not erase the need for Congress to create an independent commission to investigate President Trump. An independent commission would not have to rely on Trump's DOJ for resources nor be subordinate to Deputy Attorney General Rosenstein."
